FAQS

At Asha, we recognize that a person’s identity is multidimensional and multi-contextual in nature. There are several factors that influence identity development, such as race, ethnicity, languages spoken, age, generation, socioeconomic status, marital status, geographical location, political ideas, religion, sexual orientation, gender, national identity, developmental disabilities, and disabilities acquired over time.
Culturally responsive therapy is an ongoing process of understanding a person’s experience through a social justice lens and that honors a person’s social identity while acknowledging social systems that limit, shape and reinforce these experiences. This process empowers the person to identity their own needs and learn to create resources to achieve specific goals.

No! While we specialize in working with marginalized communities, using a culturally-responsive model means that we can work with people of all identities and presenting issues.

Therapy is helpful for everyone. And there’s so much more to therapy than stereotypes would have you believe. The right therapist will create a treatment plan based on your struggles, goals, and preferences. No matter what you’re going through, whether you’re struggling with debilitating depression, you are a high-achiever who can’t find balance, or you just find yourself lost in the uncertainty of the times, therapy can give you the tools to better understand yourself, identify barriers to progress, and help you forge a path forward.
